Service is a touchy topic. Everyone’s views and expectations of it are different. Not to mention, you’ll get different service everywhere you go.
Some people have very low expectations of service, and will therefore shop wherever the lowest prices take them. Others, however, will only shop at the highest end places simply because their service is so great and because of their great reputation. The remainder of the population falls somewhere in between, shopping at places that have a balance of both. Most people are swayed by service, even if prices are a little bit higher than competitors. Wouldn’t you like to be the company that keeps customers around because you treat them like kings and queens of Consumerland?
Everyone likes to have immediate service and everyone likes to be the center of attention at times. If you treat your customers like you’re genuinely excited for them to be giving you business and act as if you’re legitimately happy to be serving them, they’ll feel a special connection to your place and keep coming back.
Make sure your customers know you’ll do anything possible to keep their business. If you have a flippant attitude, they’ll take their business elsewhere. They should be treated like the important and valuable people they are. Wouldn’t you be more inclined to give your business to someone who treats you like a celebrity rather than someone who’s just doing their job, which is to get a sale?
